An invented regional woodland programme releases captive-bred quail. The first graph indexes annual releases relative to 1964 and shows 95% confidence intervals. In 1964, 3.60 million birds were released.
A formerly persecuted hawk has been reintroduced; several hundred pairs now breed in the region. Prey remains near nests give the second model dataset. Squirrels strip tree bark, doves eat seeds, corvids may eat quail eggs, rabbits eat leaves and bark, and the other birds have mixed plant/invertebrate diets.
A separate survey examines 280 young beech trees. Larger trunk diameter generally indicates an older tree. Ring-barking removes a complete band of bark and can kill the leading shoot.

Woodland: removing hawks is likely to reduce forest sustainability. ✔
Woodland: squirrels are major hawk prey, OR fewer hawks could allow squirrel numbers to rise. ✔
Woodland: more squirrels could increase tree damage and hinder regeneration. ✔
Quail: hawks are relatively scarce compared with releases, OR quail are not a major recorded prey item, so direct population control may be small. ✔
Quail: hawks consume corvids that may eat quail eggs. ✔
Quail: removing hawks could increase corvid abundance and egg losses. ✔
Schemat punktowania
Award any 3 points with at most 2 on woodland and at most 2 on quail; maximum 3. Conclusions must follow the model evidence.
