Ammonia is manufactured from nitrogen and hydrogen in the Haber process.
N2(g) + 3 H2(g) ⇌ 2 NH3(g)
Polecenie
(i) An equilibrium mixture in a 25.0 dm3 reactor at 500 °C contains 15.0 mol N2, 22.5 mol H2 and 5.25 mol NH3. Calculate the equilibrium constant, K, for the reaction.
(ii) The volume of the reactor containing the equilibrium mixture is suddenly increased at constant temperature. Sketch, on the axes below, how the concentration of hydrogen changes with time until the new equilibrium is established.
(iii) Calculate the standard Gibbs energy change, ΔG⊖, for the reaction at 500 °C, stating its units. Use your answer to part (i) and section 1 of the data booklet.
If you did not obtain an answer to part (i), use the value 0.150, although this is not the correct answer.

Schemat punktowania
(i) M1: the three concentrations; M2: the equilibrium expression; M3: K = 0.101 (accept 0.100-0.101). Award [3] for the correct final answer; also award [3] for Kp = 2.44 × 10^-9 kPa^-2 obtained from partial pressures. (ii) [1] for each feature: instantaneous drop, gradual rise (line or curve), final plateau below the starting level. (iii) M1: 14700 J mol^-1 (accept 1.47 × 10^4 J mol^-1 or 14.7 kJ mol^-1 with the matching unit); M2: correct units (accept J). With K = 0.150 the answer is 12200 J mol^-1. Award [2] for a correct final answer with units.
Komentarz. Concentrations, not amounts, go into K; a sudden change in volume changes every concentration at once, and only afterwards does the equilibrium shift.
