Hello everyone! You'll never guess what happened to one of our colleagues. When Nicolas Krumm was reporting on live TV from Santiago about the rising crime rates in the city a parrot suddenly landed on his shoulder. The shocked reporter continued talking while the camera crew filmed the unexpected visitor. Before anyone could react, the bird flew away with one of Krumm's earpieces. Fortunately, the reporter was able to get it back after the bird dropped it. The video of the parrot stealing the reporter's earpiece during a live broadcast about crime has become very popular online.

Can you imagine looking at the school timetable and discovering that you have four hours of maths on Friday? You may think it's boring, but having a day of classes in only one subject is something that students at Lesterton High School in the UK look forward to. While the school's timetable looks quite typical for the first four days in a week, its 'Flexible Friday', which starts at 9:30 a.m. and finishes at 1:30 p.m., allows students to concentrate on a single subject. By not having to switch between one subject and another, pupils can understand a subject more deeply, and have more time for laboratory work in subjects such as biology and physics. This isn't the only unusual feature of the school's teaching practices. For example, when Business Studies is on a Friday, pupils are taken to visit local businesses. Thanks to the school's innovative methods, the percentage of its pupils who pass their school-leaving exams has jumped from under 50% to over 90%. That really shows what can be achieved by doing things differently!

Woman: Good afternoon, everybody! Once again we're in Denver, Colorado, where – just like every winter – the state's famous snow-sculpting competition is taking place. With me is Jeff Shawan, the winner of this year's competition! Hello, Jeff.
Man: Hello, everybody!
Woman: Jeff, tell us a bit about the competition and the sculpture itself.
Man: Well, the main rule is that you can't use any electric tools. You're simply given a huge block of snow, and you have to make something out of it. My team and I made a sculpture of two hands – a human hand and a robot hand divided by a wall.
Woman: Creating the sculpture was definitely a challenge!
Man: Well, yes and no. Our team has been sculpting together for over 20 years, so everybody knew exactly what they were supposed to do, even though we only had 94 hours to complete the sculpture. The hardest thing was the sun. When it was high in the sky, shining brightly, the snow warmed up, so we had to be really careful while shaping it. And when the sun was behind the clouds, the snow immediately got colder making it harder to shape.
Woman: Is this the first time you've won the competition in Denver?
Man: Yes. We've taken part in the competition seven times, but this is our first win. Next week there's another competition in Minnesota, and we're definitely going to take part in that. But first, it's time to celebrate. We're going to a fancy hotel for a celebration dinner.
Woman: Thank you for finding the time to talk to us, Jeff. And, once again, congratulations on winning the competition!
