Man: Hi Sara, can you tell us something about yourself and what inspired you to work with sea turtles?
Woman: I'm 18 now. But when I was just seven years old my uncle asked me to join him in helping sea turtles on the coast of Costa Rica. At that time, there were only the two of us, but now I work with a whole team of volunteers.

Woman: Sure. In the season when turtles lay eggs we go to the beach every evening when it's just getting dark, collect the eggs and take them to a protected area. It's important not to do this in the middle of the day because then there are too many people around, and they could frighten the turtles.
Man: What exactly do you mean by a protected area?
Woman: It's a place on the beach where the eggs are safe until the little turtles are born. We surround the area with a fence to stop dogs and other animals from eating the eggs.
Man: And what happens once the baby turtles are born?
Woman: We take them back to the open beach so that they can make their way into the ocean.
Man: Do you do this all year round?
Woman: No. Sea turtles lay eggs from March to September. But that doesn't mean we have nothing to do in winter. That's when we educate local people about the role that sea turtles play in our planet's ecosystem, and how everyone can get involved in our work and similar projects.
