The curve is for every real x. Derivatives in this investigation are with respect to x. The positive square root is used.

(i) Product rule gives y′=(1+x²)^(-1/2)−x²(1+x²)^(-3/2). Combining over (1+x²)^(3/2) leaves numerator (1+x²)−x²=1. (ii) Since y²=x²/(1+x²), we have 1−y²=1/(1+x²)>0. Raising to power 3/2 gives (1−y²)^(3/2)=1/(1+x²)^(3/2)=y′.
Schemat punktowania
(i) M1: product or quotient differentiation. A1: correct first term. A1: correct chain-rule second term. These two accuracy marks assess the differentiated terms; the displayed target is a given result, not an extra condition for earning these intermediate marks. For a quotient-rule solution, award one A1 per correct numerator term; if the denominator is incorrect, cap these two accuracy marks at A1A0. (ii) M1: substitute y² and form a common denominator. A1: 1−y²=1/(1+x²). A1: raise the positive quantities to 3/2 and establish equality with y′.
Komentarz. Paper 1: no calculator. The AA HL formula booklet is allowed. Give exact answers and show the reasoning.
