(i) The estimate is above the upper arc because that arc is concave down, so forward tangent steps lie above it. (ii) The initial slope is 2(2)/(22 + 0) = 1 > 0. Forward steps therefore enter the upper arc; with x > 0 and the iterates y ≥ 0, each subsequent increment stays positive. They cannot reach the negative-y lower arc.
